Playwriting II Class
Instructor: Seema Sueko, Artistic Director
Dates: Mondays, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m., January 28 - March 10, 2008 except February 18 2008
Fee: $200 / $175 for AASD or AEA Members

Open to students who have participated in Your Mo`olelo Playwriting Class, this class is focused on helping students transition the short scenes they created in Your Mo`olelo toward a first full draft of a play, or to facilitate re-writes on their first draft. The format will include impulse writing exercises, assigned deadlines, feedback in a safe setting and writing assignments. In addition, students will be invited to observe rehearsals of Permanent Collection.

Your Mo`olelo Playwriting Class
Instructor: Seema Sueko, Artistic Director
Dates: Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. April 8 – May 13, 2008
Dates: Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. September 16 – October 21, 2008
Fee: $250 / $200 for AASD or AEA Members

Designed for novice to intermediate-level playwrights, each class session will include an introduction of various playwriting tools, elements or tactics, followed by exercises to fully explore them. The goal is to help you write your story. No one can teach you how to write a play - there is no set way, no definitive "how to" or rulebook. Rather, what we can do is provide you with tools to begin writing your play, or to re-write it, and the confidence to trust your impulse and write the story you need to write.

Beginning Acting Class (Ages 15 and up)
Instructor: Seema Sueko, Artistic Director
Dates: Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. July 8 - August 12, 2008
Fee: $250 / $200 for AASD or AEA Members

Designed for the beginner who perhaps attends a lot of theater and once acted in the school play or always wanted to act but never gave them self the permission to try it, this class will explore the fundamentals of acting in a safe and fun environment.

Audition Strategies for the Professional Actor
Instructor: Seema Sueko, Artistic Director
Dates: Mondays, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., July 28 - September 1, 2008
Dates: Mondays, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., September 15 – October 20, 2008
Fee: $200 / $150 for AASD or AEA Members

Audition Strategies will challenge the actor go deeper, mine the script, and prepare stronger auditions. Each class session will include monologue or scene work, simulating a LORT audition environment. Being in relationship, maneuvering the twists and turns of your script, staying on action, living in the world of the play, layering and nuances. We'll work on all these things. This class is designed for the working actor.

Wine, Cheese and Wisdom

Fee: FREE

Piloted in August 2007, Wine, Cheese & Wisdom brings together local professional theater practitioners to discuss process and gain wisdom from some of San Diego's nationally-recognized artists. The inaugural gathering featured Shirley Fishman and Richard Seer. Stay tuned for details on the next gathering.

About the Instructor: Seema Sueko is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company. Her play, "remains," was Mo`olelo's inaugural show, and it has since received readings and productions in San Francisco, Chicago and Minnesota and is part of the theater curriculum at the University of Puget Sound. Seema was commissioned by Mixed Blood Theater to co-write "Messy Utopia," which was produced in Minneapolis earlier this year. Directing credits include "Since Africa" and "The Adoption Project: Triad" for Mo`olelo. Acting credits include: Jennifer in "The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow" at The Old Globe and Yale Rep; Connie in "A Chorus Line" at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre; Mrs. Cratchit in "A Christmas Carol" at San Diego Rep; Cora in the world premiere of "The Crime of the Century" at Circle Theatre; Forgiveness in "The Waiting Room" at Stage Left Theatre; Maria in "West Side Story" at Seattle's Village Theatre; among others. Awards include: The McDonald Playwriting Award; KPBS Patte; San Diego Theater Critics Award; Chicago Jeff Awards; and Chicago After Dark Awards
