Night Sky Three Part Arts Education Outreach Program
In conjunction with Night Sky, we are pleased to offer Three Part Arts, Mo`olelo's signature arts outreach program for high schools. This unique program gives students direct access to the professional directors and actors engaged in our productions.
Part One is a 20-minute pre-show classroom visit by the leading actor of Night Sky, who sparks discussion on the plays themes and prepares students for their theater-going experience. This visit is usually held 1-3 days prior to the students' fieldtrip to the play. Dates available for Part One are: September 8, 9, 12, 15, or 16, 2008.
Part Two is a theater field trip to see Night Sky at The Studio Theatre at La Jolla Playhouse. Performances start at 9:30 a.m. and run approximately two hours on September 10, 11, 17 and 18. Maximum capacity is 100 students and teachers. Schools must reserve their own buses to the theater. Schools may elect to attend an evening performance if the morning matinee is prohibitive.
Part Three is a 50-minute post-show classroom workshop held 1-5 days after the students have seen the play. For Night Sky, teachers will choose one of three post-show workshop options:
o Option A Theater Workshop: Facilitated by the leading actor of Night Sky, this workshop will include acting exercises that provide students with the actor's process of preparing for the role of Anna, as well as playwriting exercises that give the students an opportunity to develop scenes inspired by stories about brain injury. Dates available for this post-show workshop are: September 12, 15, 16, 19, 22 or 23, 2008
o Option B Science Workshop: Facilitated by Sharp On Survival / ThinkFirst program, this workshop focuses on brain anatomy and physiology. Dates available for this workshop are: September 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 or 22.
o Option C Disability Awareness Workshop: Facilitated by The San Diego Brain Injury Foundation and Disability Awareness Network, this workshop will provide students with interactive activities that give them insight into what it means to have a brain injury. Dates available for this workshop are: September 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 or 22.
Cost: $5.50 per student, includes Parts One, Two and Three, plus a Teacher Study Guide.
Some scholarships available for Title I schools.
Recommended for Grades 11 and 12.
